Volleyball Splits Final Day of First ASC Crossover
October 4, 2008

SEGUIN, Texas - The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team (8-8, 2-4 ASC) split their final two games of the first American Southwest Conference crossover of the season on Saturday at Texas Lutheran.

The Patriots took down Concordia, 3-2, in a five-set thriller during the day’s first match. However UT Tyler would not fare as well in the final match of the day, as host TLU stayed unbeaten in the ASC with a 3-0 win over the Patriots.

In the match against Concordia, freshman Danika Waldrep led the way offensively for UT Tyler with 12 kills. Frehsman Liz Bartelson (Burlington, Wis.) and sophomore Aerial Longino (Alvarado, Texas) followed closely behind with 11 and 10, respectively.

Waldrep, Bartelson and Longino had plenty of help in making their kills from junior Cristy Meredith (Amarillo, Texas) who recorded 26 assists in the match. Sophomore Whitney Clement (Flint, Texas) followed Meredith with 20 assists of her own.

On the defensive end, senior Megan McCarty (Kaufman, Texas) led with a season high 37 digs.

In the second match, the Patriots struggled offensively managing just 28 kills. Freshman Amanda Hanson (Spring, Texas) led UT Tyler in kills during the match with eight.

McCarty once again led in digs with 19.

The Patriots will now take a break from their ASC schedule when they travel to Irving on Tuesday to take on the University of Dallas at 7 p.m.
