Volleyball’s McCarty Ends Drought With ASC Award

RICHARDSON, Texas - Senior Megan McCarty (Kaufman, Texas) was named East Division Defensive Player of the Week by the American Southwest Conference on Wednesday.

McCarty is the first UT Tyler volleyball player since the 2004 season to receive a weekly honor from the ASC.

McCarty split her time last weekend between Outside Hitter and Libero, while helping her team to a 3-1 record at the Rhodes College Invitational.

McCarty led UT Tyler with 60 digs and seven service aces over the four-match span. She also had 11 kills and two blocks on the weekend.

McCarty and the rest of the Patriots will host the 2008 Azalea/UT Tyler Volleyball Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The first match for UT Tyler will be against Ottawa (Kan.) at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Herrington Patriot Center.
