Volleyball’s Clements Earns Academic Honor

TOWSON, Md. - Junior Whitney Clements of The University of Texas at Tyler has been named to the 2009 Volleyball Academic All-District third team by ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America, the organizations announced on Thursday.

The Flint, Texas native completed her third year with the Patriots by leading the team in assists with 514.

Off the court, Clements has been equally as successful. The special education major received both Academic All-American Southwest Conference and ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete team honors in 2008 and currently boasts a 3.82 overall grade point average.

Clements is now the first volleyball player in UT Tyler history to be named to an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District team and the 16th Patriot in three years to earn the honor.
