Volleyball Drops Two at Crossover

The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team went 0-2 during the final day of the first American Southwest Conference crossover of the season on Saturday at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots started the day with a tough, 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-23), loss to McMurry and fell again in the final match of the day, 3-1 (25-10, 21-25, 25-17, 25-9), to Hardin-Simmons.

Junior Kelsey Winn (Tyler, Texas) led the Patriots in both matches with a combined 16 kills on the day.

The libero duo of freshmen Hillary Taylor (Lewisville, Texas) and Sarah Smith (Sugarland, Texas) combined to lead the UT Tyler defense with 45 digs. Smith also led the Patriots (6-11, 1-7) in service aces with three over the two match span.

The Patriots will return to action on Tuesday when they meet the regional rival University of Dallas at Arlington Baptist (Tex.) at 7 p.m.
