Volleyball Drops Two at Second Crossover

ALPINE, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-2 heartbreakers against Texas Lutheran and Concordia (Tex.) on Friday at the final American Southwest Conference crossover of the season at Sul Ross State in Alpine.

In their match in against Texas Lutheran, the Patriots battled back from a tough 25-12 loss in the first set to win the second set, 25-20.

The Bulldogs edged UT Tyler, 25-23, in the third set, but in the fourth set the Patriots once again bounced back by picking up a gritty 26-24 win.

However, in the fifth set Texas Lutheran took control and sealed the match win a 15-9 victory.

Sophomore Amanda Hanson (Spring, Texas) led the Patriots offensively with 14 kills, while freshman Hillary Taylor (Lewisville, Texas) led the defense with 32 digs.

Against Concordia, the Patriots dropped the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores, but battled back to force the match into a decisive fifth set by winning the third and fourth sets, 25-20, 25-18.

In the fifth set, UT Tyler once again came up short as the Tornados won the fifth set, 15-9, and picked up the 3-2 match victory.

Junior Holly Kieschnick (Gladewater, Texas) was the top Patriot on offense in the match with 13 kills, while Taylor was once again the defensive leader, this time with 41 digs.

On Saturday, the Patriots will close out play at the crossover by taking on hosts Sul Ross St. at 9:30 a.m., followed by Schreiner at 2:30 p.m.
