Volleyball Splits Final Day in Alpine

ALPINE, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team went 1-1 on the final day of the second American Southwest Conference crossover of the season on Saturday at Sul Ross State in Alpine.
In the first match against Sul Ross, the Patriots (9-15, 3-11) lost the fist set, 27-25, but rebounded to win the match by taking the next three sets, 25-18, 29-27 and 25-23.
Sophomore Amanda Hanson (Spring, Texas) came up big for UT Tyler on offense by recording 16 kills and four block assists, while freshman Sarah Smith (Sugarland, Texas) led the Patriots defensively with 27 digs.
In its final match of the day against Schreiner, UT Tyler struggled offensively and fell in straight sets, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-19.
Hanson and junior Holly Kieschnick (Gladewater, Texas) led the Patriots on offense in the match with seven kills each, while freshman Hillary Taylor (Lewisville, Texas) recorded 17 digs to lead the defense.
On Tuesday, the Patriots will return home to the Herrington Patriot Center for a non-conference contest with Austin College at 7 p.m.
