Volleyball Falls to Austin at Home

The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team was swept by Austin College, 25-20, 25-22, 25-16, in non-conference action on Tuesday night at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots kept the first two sets close, but the Kangaroos (21-7) were able to build momentum late in each to surge ahead for the win.

In the third set, the Patriots (9-16) struggled to find holes in the Austin defense, allowing the visitors to seal the 3-0 match win.

Junior Kelsey Winn (Tyler, Texas) led the UT Tyler offense with nine kills and two service aces in the match, while freshman Hillary Taylor (Lewisville, Texas) recorded 17 digs to lead the defense.

This weekend, the Patriots will travel to San Antonio to close out the non-conference portion of their 2009 schedule by competing in the Trinity (Tex.) University Fall Classic. UT Tyler will open play in the two-day event on Friday when it meets Elmhurst at 3:30 p.m.
