Elmhurst Gets Better of Volleyball at Trinity Fall Classic

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team opened play in the 2009 Trinity (Tex.) Fall Classic with a 3-1 loss to Elmhurst (Ill.) on Friday afternoon at Sam’s Gymnasium in San Antonio.
The Blue Jays (15-14) jumped out an early lead by taking the first set, 25-17, but the Patriots battled back in the second set and evened the match with a 25-23 win.
However, UT Tyler (9-17) was unable to stop the Elmhurst offense in third and fourth sets and fell, 25-21 and 25-10, to give the Blue Jays the 3-1 match win.
Junior Holly Kieschnick (Gladewater, Texas) recorded a match-high 12 kills to lead the Patriots on offense, while freshman Hillary Taylor (Lewisville, Texas) notched 21 digs, also a match-high, to lead the UT Tyler defense.
The Patriots will return to Sam’s Gymnasium on Saturday to wrap-up play in the Classic by taking on #17 Trinity (Tex.) at 10 a.m., followed by Texas Lutheran at 2 p.m.
