Volleyball Drops Home Finale to ETBU

The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team played with East Texas Baptist in every set of Tuesday night’s American Southwest Conference contest at the Herrington Patriots Center, but in the end, the Tigers used their keen set-closing ability to spoil the Patriots’ final home match of the season with a 3-1 (26-24, 16-25, 25-22, 27-25) match victory.

UT Tyler battled its way to set points in the first and fourth sets, however ETBU’s ability to capitalize on the Patriots’ mistakes proved to the difference maker in the match.

Sophomore Danika Waldrep (Arlington, Texas) turned in a well-rounded performance on the evening by recording 11 kills and match-highs of four service aces and 16 digs.

Meanwhile, sophomore Amanda Hanson (Spring, Texas) also had a big night for UT Tyler as she finished the match with her own match-highs of 13 kills and four total blocks.

With the loss the Patriots fall to 9-20 on the year and 3-12 in the ASC, while the win lifts ETBU to 17-9 overall and 13-4 in league play.

On Friday, the Patriots will travel to Belton, Texas to take on Mary Hardin-Baylor in the first of their final two matches of the regular season. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
