Volleyball Plays Spoiler at UMHB

BELTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team ended Mary Hardin-Baylor’s postseason hopes on Friday night by beating the Cru, 3-0, in American Southwest Conference action at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
The Patriots jumped out to an early 1-0 lead to begin the match by cruising past UMHB, 25-12, in the first set.
In the second and third sets, the Cru (8-25-5-12) attempted to fight back but it was no avail, as the Patriots took the final two sets by identical 25-22 scores.
UT Tyler (10-20, 4-12) recorded 38 kills and committed just 10 errors on 100 attempts in the match for a hitting percentage of .280, their second highest match hitting percentage of the season.
Sophomore Amanda Hanson (Spring, Texas) and junior Cristy Meredith (Amarillo, Texas) led the Patriots’ offense on the night with 13 kills and 17 assists, respectively.
Defensively, freshman Hilary Taylor (Lewisville, Texas) once again led the way for UT Tyler in the digs column, this time with 16.
On Saturday, the Patriots will play their final game of the 2009 season when they travel to Richardson to take on undefeated and 11th-ranked Texas-Dallas at 6 p.m.
