Volleyball Opens ASC Play With Win at LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas - The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team won its American Southwest Conference opener on Thursday night by taking down LeTourneau, 3-0, at the Solheim Arena in Longview.

In the first game, the Patriot defense allowed the YellowJackets (3-7, 0-2) to hang around, but UT Tyler’s offense took over down the stretch for the 25-23 win.

After the first game, the Patriots (5-4, 1-0) were able to strengthen their defense while still packing an offensive punch to win the final two games of the match, 25-21 and 25-17.

Sophomore Amanda Hanson (Spring, Texas) led the UT Tyler offense in the match by recording nine kills and a match-high four service aces.

Junior Whitney Clements (Flint, Texas) and freshman Melissa Ingebretsen (McKinney, Texas) helped record 30 of the team’s 41 kills on the night by ending the match with 15 set assists each.

Defensively, sophomore Danika Waldrep (Arlington, Texas) led the Patriots in digs with eight, while junior Kelsey Winn (Tyler, Texas) led the team in total blocks with four.

The Patriots continue their seven-match road trip on Friday when they travel to Clinton, Miss., for an ASC East contest with Mississippi College at 7 p.m.
