Women's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker to Concordia
December 17, 2007

The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team let a 15 point halftime lead slip away as they fell to Concordia (Tex.), 84-80 on Monday night at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots, who led by as many as 18 points in the second half, were outscored by the Tornados 53-31 in the final 16 minutes of the game. UT Tyler had an opportunity to tie with less than 30 seconds remaining, but a key turnover would be the final piece in Concordia’s puzzle as they grabbed the 84-80 win.

Senior Kasey Buggs (Lake Dallas, Texas) led the Patriots in both major categories as she notched her second double-double of the season with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Marci Trogus (Houston, Texas) followed Buggs with 16 points. Concordia junior Kassandra Bills (Pflugerville, Texas) led all scorers with 25 points, with her last 11 points coming in the final three minutes of the game.

With the loss the Patriots now stand at 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the American Southwest conference, while Concordia improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

UT Tyler will now take 12 days off for the Christmas holidays and will return to action on Saturday, December 29, when they hit the road to take on Texas A&M – Commerce. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
