Women's Basketball Tops Jarvis on the Road

HAWKINS, Texas --- The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team defeated Jarvis Christian on Tuesday night in Hawkins, 76-67.
The Patriots jumped out to an early 11-1 lead and never looked back. The Bulldogs attempted to rally on several occasions, but could never gain momentum in a game in which UT Tyler never trailed. In the second half, the Patriots were able to build on a six-point halftime lead to win the game by nine.
Freshman Melissa Thomas (Austin, Texas) led her team for the third straight game, this time scoring 23 points. She now leads the team in points per game with 17. Freshman Lindsay Eaton (Austin, Texas) recorded the first double-double of her collegiate career with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman LaTiandra Smith (Jacksonville, Texas) rounded out the Patriots who scored in double-digits with 10 points.
The Patriots 3-1 record ties the best start in school history for the team. With the loss, Jarvis Christian falls to 2-3 on the season.
The Patriots return to action on Saturday when they open American Southwest play in Seguin, Texas against Texas Lutheran. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
