Women’s Basketball Win Streak Ends At Ten
February 23, 2008

CLINTON, Miss.--The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team ended their ten game winning streak on Saturday afternoon by falling at Mississippi College, 60-56.

The game went back and forth from beginning to end, as the Patriots looked to extend their win streak to a record 11 games. Late in the second half, senior Kasey Buggs (Lake Dallas, Texas) hit a jumper for the game's fifteenth lead change and put UT Tyler up by two. In what had been a fast-paced game, both teams hit a wall and went almost two of the final three minutes without scoring. With 1:10 remaining, the Choctaws’ Anesia McBride hit a jumper that would put MC up for good.

Freshman Melissa Thomas (Austin, Texas) led the Patriots with 17 points, while Buggs followed with 15 of her own.

With the loss, the Patriots will end their regular season at 17-8 and 14-6 in the East Division of the American Southwest Conference, while the win lifts Mississippi College to 15-10 overall and 12-8 in the ASC East.

Despite the loss, UT Tyler will enter next weekend’s ASC Tournament as the No. 1 seed from the East and will take on the No. 4 seed from the West, Mary Hardin-Baylor, at 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the Herrington Patriot Center.
