Patriots Down Lobos on the Road
January 3, 2008

ALPINE, Texas---The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team exploited a cold shooting night by Sul Ross St. on Thursday in its 73-55 routing of the Lobos in Alpine.

The Patriots showed little signs of rust in their first game back after a five day lay-off, as they gained the lead at the 2:15 mark of the first half and never let go. UT Tyler outshot Sul Ross in all categories and outrebounded the Lobos by a total of 20 rebounds.

Freshman Marci Trogus (Houston, Texas) started the New Year off right by scoring a career-high 22 points to lead all scorers, including an impressive 4-for-6 from behind the arch and a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. Freshman Lindsay Eaton (Austin, Texas) notched her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Kasey Buggs (Lake Dallas, Texas) ended up two rebounds shy of a double-double as she recorded 18 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Becky Taylor (New Caney, Texas) came off the bench to match Eaton’s 10 rebounds and came up just shy of her own double-double, as she contributed seven points to the Patriots’ cause. Junior Isela Garza (El Paso, Texas) led Sul Ross with 17 points.

The Patriots now stand at 7-3 on the year and 4-1 in the American Southwest Conference, while Sul Ross falls to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

UT Tyler will return to the court on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Brownwood, Texas to take on third-ranked and unbeaten Howard Payne. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
