Wildcats Win as Patriots Lose Fourth Straight

The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team fell to Louisiana College on Thursday night at the Herrington Patriot Center, 77-66. It was UT Tyler’s fourth straight loss, both overall and at home.
The Patriots, who never led in the game, trailed by double digits in each half. However, in each half the Patriots were able to come within a basket of the Wildcats, but could not capture the lead.
Freshman Melissa Thomas (Austin, Texas) and sophomore Becky Taylor (New Caney, Texas) led the way for UT Tyler with 14 points each. Thomas tied with fellow freshman Marci Trogus (Houston, Texas) for most rebounds by a Patriot, as each had nine. Trogus followed closely behind Thomas and Taylor in scoring with 12 points. Senior Kasey Buggs (Lake Dallas, Texas) had 10 points to round out UT Tyler players in double figures. Freshman Tillisha Givens (Monroe, La.) led the way for Louisiana College with games highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds, for a double-double.
The loss drops the Patriots to 7-7 overall and 4-5 in the American Southwest East, while the Wildcats improve to 9-5 on the year and 5-4 in conference action.
UT Tyler will return to the Herrington Patriot Center on Saturday to host Mississippi College in a pivotal ASC East matchup. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
