Patriots Put Away Choctaws; Snap Four Game Skid
January 19, 2008

The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball ended their four game losing streak on Saturday afternoon by defeating Mississippi College, 85-57, at the Herrington Patriot Center in an American Southwest Conference East Division contest.

The Patriots, who trailed just twice during the game and led the entire second half, out shot the Choctaws from the floor by 18 percent and from behind the arch by 49 percent. UT Tyler, who had a 55 percent field goal average, is 4-1 on the season when they shoot at 50 percent or better. The Patriots also outrebounded Mississippi College, 47 to 31.

Sophomore Becky Taylor (New Caney, Texas) ended the game just one rebound shy of a double-double, as she had game-highs of 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Patriots. The freshman trio of Melissa Thomas (Austin, Texas), Marci Trogus (Houston, Texas) and Lindsay Eaton (Austin, Texas) rounded out the four Patriots in double figures with 16, 15 and 14, respectively. Junior Rosemary Green (Mt. Olive, Miss.) had 16 points to lead the Choctaws.

With the win, UT Tyler improves to 8-7 overall and 5-5 in the ASC East, while Mississippi College falls to 7-8 on the year and 4-6 in league play. The Patriots are now in a three-way tie with Louisiana College and East Texas Baptist for first place in the East Division.

UT Tyler will look to take one of those teams out of the first place picture on Thursday night, when they travel to Marshall, Texas to face East Texas Baptist. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m
