Red Hot Patriots Too Much for LeTourneau
January 26, 2008

The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team outscored LeTourneau by 19 points in the second half en route to its 72-52 win on Saturday afternoon at the Herrington Patriot Center. The Patriots have now won three games in a row and remain atop the standings in East Division of the American Southwest Conference.

Even though LeTourneau trailed for most of the period, the LadyJackets were able to keep it close by shooting 54 percent from floor, including going 4-for-7 from 3-point range. The Patriots, who shot 52 percent in the half, had trouble turning back LeTourneau and led by just one at halftime. In the second half, the Patriots would once again shoot 52 percent from floor and held LeTourneau to just 22 percent; creating what would one be a major factor in the UT Tyler win. The Patriots outscored the LadyJackets 35-16 in the final stanza and forced LeTourneau to go 0-for-6 from behind arch in the half.

Freshman Marci Trogus (Houston, Texas) led UT Tyler with 15 points and 11 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double. Senior Kasey Buggs (Lake Dallas, Texas) followed behind Trogus with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the year. The two freshmen from Austin, Texas, Lindsay Eaton and Melissa Thomas, rounded out the four Patriots in double figures with 14 and 13, respectively. Senior Erin Wait (White Oak, Texas) led LeTourneau with a game-high 16 points.

UT Tyler now stands at 10-7 overall and 7-5 in ASC East play, while LeTourneau falls to 4-13 on the year and 2-10 in the conference.

The Patriots will return to action on Monday night in Richardson when they take on UT Dallas at 5:30 p.m.
