March 19, 2008

STERLING, Va., -- Senior forward Kasey Buggs (Lake Dallas, Texas) was named to the D3hoops.com All-South Region 3rd Women’s Basketball Team on Wednesday morning. Buggs is the first UT Tyler women’s basketball player to receive All-Region honors.

Buggs is one of only 15 players in the South Region to receive the honor. The South Region includes Division III schools in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.

During the 2007-2008 season, Buggs averaged 15.8 points and 7.6 points per game. Buggs finished her career at UT Tyler as the school’s all-time leading rebounder and 2nd on the school’s all-time scoring list.

This is not the first post-season honor for Buggs, having already received several accolades. Buggs was named American Southwest Conference East Division Player of the Year and was also named to the All-Conference, All-East Division 1st, Academic All-Conference and ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete teams.

Buggs joined three other ASC players who were named to South Region teams. Meia Daniels of Howard Payne and Tarra Richardson of McMurry were named to the 1st Team, while Stacey Blalock, also of Howard Payne, was named to the 2nd Team. Howard Payne’s head coach, Chris Kielsmeir, was named as the South Region’s Coach of the Year and Daniels was named South Region Player of the Year.
