Thomas, Taylor Help Lead Women’s Hoops Past Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team powered past Schreiner, 88-73, in an American Southwest Conference match-up in Kerrville on Monday night.
The Patriots were once again fueled by performances from junior Becky Taylor (Bullard, Texas) and sophomore Melissa Thomas (Austin, Texas). Taylor scored 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for her fifth consecutive double-double, while Thomas scored 33 for her second straight 30-plus point contest.
UT Tyler (4-1, 2-0) never trailed the Mountaineers (0-3, 0-1) in the game and led by as many 29.
Senior Marzetta Shepard (Atlanta, Texas) and sophomore Marci Trogus (Houston, Texas) rounded out the four Patriots in double figures by scoring 16 and 11, respectively.
Schreiner senior Monica Enriquez (Corpus Christi, Texas) led all scorers with a game-high 23 points.
The Patriots will return home to the Herrington Patriot Center and open a three-game home stand on Thursday evening. UT Tyler will take on Hardin-Simmons at 5:30 p.m.
