Women's Basketball Bounces Back With Win Over Jarvis
December 8, 2008

After losing for just the second time this season on Saturday, The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team resumed its winning ways by topping Jarvis Christian, 73-69, on Monday night at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (6-2) got the scoring started early by jumping out to a 10 point lead. However, Jarvis (2-4) battled back and ended the half by going on a 13-2 run and took a five-point lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, the Patriots clawed their way back and retook the lead with 13 minutes left in the game. However, the Lady Bulldogs did not go quietly. In the last 13 minutes of the game, there were 12 lead changes and four ties.

Finally, with one minute and four seconds left in the contest, the Patriots took the lead for the last time and held on for the win.

Sophomore Lindsay Eaton (Austin, Texas) led all scorers with a game-high 20 points. Junior Becky Taylor (Bullard, Texas) notched her seventh double-double in eight games by scoring 13 points and pulling down 11 boards.

Senior Marzetta Shepard (Atlanta, Texas) recorded her own double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Melissa Thomas (Austin, Texas) rounded out the four Patriots in double-digits with 10 points.

Junior Karina Uresti (Brownsville, Texas) led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points.

UT Tyler will resume play in the American Southwest Conference on Saturday when they take on Concordia (Tex.) in Austin at 1:00 p.m.
