December 30, 2008
Loyola University of New Orleans held The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team to a season-low 56 points, as the Wolfpack topped the Patriots, 66-56, on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Herrington Patriot Center.
UT Tyler (7-3), which never led in the game, shot just 12.5 percent from the floor in the first half and finished the game by shooting just under 30 percent.
Patriot guard Marzetta Shepard (Atlanta, Texas), who led UT Tyler going in to the game by averaging 19.8 points per game, was held to less than half of her average and scored just nine points in the contest.
The Patriots were led by sophomore Lindsay Eaton (Austin, Texas), who finished just shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Melissa Thomas (Austin, Texas) followed closely behind Eaton with 14 points of her own.
For the ninth time in 10 games, sophomore Becky Taylor recorded a double-double. Taylor scored 13 points and pulled down 13 rebounds on the afternoon.
Loyola (3-4) was led by twins Trenell and Trenese Smith (LaPlace, La.). Trenell led the Wolfpack with 23 points, while sister Trenese followed with 13.
The Patriots will return to American Southwest Conference action on Friday when they travel to Belton, Texas, to take on Mary Hardin-Baylor at 4:00 p.m.
