Taylor Nets National Basketball Honor

STERLING, Va. – Junior forward Becky Taylor of The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team picked up her second honor in three days on Wednesday when she was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week.

The Bullard resident was one of just five players in all of Division III to receive the weekly award.

Taylor notched her 16th and 17th double-doubles of the season last week, while averaging 19.5 points and 18.5 rebounds per game. Taylor also pulled down 21 rebounds against LeTourneau, one shy of her career high of 22.

Joining Taylor on the D3hoops team this week were guards Heather Witt of Wis.-Eau Claire, Brittany Zimmerman of Delaware Valley and Kelly Oakes of Cedar Crest, as well as forward Caitlin Moser of Gettysburg.

The D3hoops.com Team of the Week is in its 12th season and recognizes the top performance nationally at each of the five positions from the previous week. It is selected by the D3hoops.com staff from nominations by sports information directors and coaches.

Taylor and the rest of the Patriots will close out the home portion of their 2009 schedule this weekend when they host East Texas Baptist on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Letourneau on Saturday at 1 p.m.
