Women’s Basketball Downs ETBU for 4th Straight Win

TYLER, Texas. – The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team had three players record double-doubles on Thursday night en route to an 84-68 American Southwest Conference victory over East Texas Baptist at the Herrington Patriot Center.
After trading baskets with the Lady Tigers for the first few minutes of the game, the Patriots eventually pulled ahead leading by as many as 14 in the first half and by 11 at intermission.
In the second half, it was more of the same for UT Tyler. The Patriots were able to build their lead to as large as 18 points and never led by less than 11 in the final stanza.
Junior Becky Taylor (Bullard, Texas) and sophomores Marci Trogus (Houston, Texas) and Lindsay Eaton (Austin, Texas) repeated their feat from UT Tyler’s last meeting with ETBU, as all three once again recorded double-doubles.
Taylor led all scorers by tying her career-high of 27 points, as well as pulling down 10 rebounds.
Trogus was next in line for the Patriots with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Eaton scored 18 points and pulled down a game-high 12 boards.
Senior Marzetta Shepard (Atlanta, Texas) added 12 points and 5 steals to UT Tyler’s cause to round out the four Patriots scoring in double digits.
Senior Candy Vallo (Shreveport, La.) led ETBU on the night with 21 points.
UT Tyler can clinch its second straight American Southwest Conference tournament berth on Saturday when it hosts LeTourneau in the final home game of the 2008-2009 season. Tip-off at the Herrington Patriot Center is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
