Red Hot Women’s Basketball Too Much for LeTourneau
February 7, 2009

The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team shot almost 70 percent in the first half of Saturday afternoon’s American Southwest match-up with LeTourneau at the Herrington Patriot Center, propelling them to the eventual 89-60 win.

The win was fifth straight for the Patriots who improved to a perfect 12-0 all-time against the LadyJackets.

UT Tyler (14-7, 11-5) finished the afternoon shooting 56.4 percent from the floor, 37.5 percent from 3-point range and 72.4 percent from the free throw line.

The Patriots dominated LeTourneau (4-17, 3-13) in nearly every statistical category, including out-rebounding the LadyJackets by 16.

Sophomore Lindsay Eaton (Austin, Texas) led all-scorers with 23 points. Eaton also pulled down 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.

Junior Becky Taylor (Bullard, Texas) followed Eaton with 18 points, while freshman Staci Hankins (Athens, Texas) had 11.

Senior Marzetta Shepard (Atlanta, Texas) turned in another well-rounded performance by scoring 14 points, as well as recording six steals and five assists.

Sophomore Marci Trogus (Houston, Texas) had a big day on the glass for UT Tyler, leading all rebounders with 11. Trogus narrowly missed a double-double as she had nine points as well.

Freshman Ali Goodwin (Flower Mound, Texas) and sophomore La’Queda Davis (Houston, Texas) led LeTourneau in the contest with 13 points each.

UT Tyler will now embark on a four game road trip to end its regular season. The Patriots will open the trip with Texas-Dallas at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in Richardson.
