Women’s Basketball Bows Out of ASC Tournament

ABILENE, Texas - The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team ended its season with a 67-55 loss to McMurry in the quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference tournament on Friday at Kimbrell Arena in Abilene.
The Patriots never led in the game and their only tie came during the first half.
Despite never leading, the game was never out reach for UT Tyler as the largest McMurry lead was just 13 points. The Patriots trailed by only five at the break.
Sophomore Marci Trogus (Houston, Texas) led UT Tyler with 19 points on the evening, while junior Becky Taylor (Bullard, Texas) followed with 16 points. Taylor also pulled down 14 rebounds in the game to end her season with 23 double-doubles. She is now tied for third on the NCAA Division III single-season double-double list.
Sophomore Anna Berthel (Anna, Texas) recorded her own double-double, as she scored a game-high 23 point and notched 11 rebounds.
McMurry will now advance to Saturday’s semi-final versus Howard Payne.
UT Tyler’s season comes to a close with a 15-11 overall record and a 12-8 mark in league play.
