Women’s Basketball Falls to Louisiana

Clutch free throw shooting from Louisiana College proved to be the difference, as The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team fell in American Southwest Conference action for just the third time this season, 71-66, on Thursday night at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Lady Wildcats (9-5, 5-5) went 14-for-16 from the free throw line in the contest, including going 6-for-6 in the game’s final three minutes.

Although UT Tyler (9-5, 6-3) outscored Louisiana, 36-35, in the second half, the Lady Wildcats took a 35-31 lead into the locker room at intermission, which proved to be enough for the win.

Junior Becky Taylor (Bullard, Texas) led all players with game-highs of 19 points and 15 rebounds. The double-double was Taylor’s 13th in 14 games. Sophomores Lindsay Eaton (Austin, Texas) and Melissa Thomas (Austin, Texas) were the other two Patriots scoring in double-digits with 14 and 12, respectively.

Sophomores Taylor Henderson (Monroe, La.) and Tillisha Givens (Monroe, La.) led Louisiana with 17 points each. Givens also posted a double-double by pulling down a team-high 12 rebounds.

The Patriots will return to action on Saturday at the Herrington Patriot Center when they host Mississippi College at 1 p.m.
