Mississippi Tops Women’s Basketball

The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team lost its second consecutive American Southwest Conference game on Saturday, falling to Mississippi College, 82-64, at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The Patriots (9-6, 6-4) trailed the Lady Choctaws (13-2, 8-2) by just five points at the break. However, Mississippi took over in the second half and outscored UT Tyler by 13 in the final stanza.

Senior Becky Taylor (Bullard, Texas) led three Patriots in double-digits with 19 points. Although Taylor missed out a double-double for just the second time this season, she once again led her team in rebounds, this time with six. Taylor has now led the Patriots in rebounding for 16 consecutive games, dating back to the 2007-2008 season.

Sophomore Melissa Thomas (Austin, Texas) had 11 points for UT Tyler, while freshman Lindsay Hausmann (Austin, Texas) chipped in 10.

Senior Casie Hilton (Mendenhall, Miss.) led the Lady Choctaws with a game-high 22 points.

The Patriots will return to ASC action on Thursday when they host league-leaders Texas-Dallas at 5:30 p.m., at the Herrington Patriot Center.
