UT Dallas Tops Women’s Basketball
January 22, 2009

The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team fell to 22nd-ranked Texas-Dallas, 85-77, in an American Southwest Conference contest on Thursday night at the Herrington Patriot Center.

The win not only allowed UT Dallas (15-2, 12-0) to stay unbeaten in the ASC, but snapped a nine-game losing streak against UT Tyler.

The Patriots (9-7, 6-5 ASC) never led in the contest, but twice cut the lead down from double digits to get within striking distance of the Comets.

UT Tyler was able to pull within four points with less than two minutes to play, however missed free throws and turnovers prevented them from getting any closer.

Junior Becky Taylor (Bullard, Texas) tied a career-high by scoring a game-high 22 points. Taylor also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the season.

Sophomore Lindsay Eaton (Austin, Texas) followed Taylor with 19 points and nine rebounds, one board shy of her own double-double.

Sophomore Melissa Thomas (Austin, Texas) and freshman Staci Hankins (Athens, Texas) rounded out the four UT Tyler players in double digits with 15 and 10, respectively.

UT Dallas once again relied on balanced scoring across their line-up to pick up the win. The Comets placed five players in double figures on the evening. Freshman Lyndsey Smith (Gunter, Texas) scored 18 points to lead her team.

The Patriots will look to end their three-game skid on Saturday, when they host Ozarks at 1 p.m. at the Herrington Patriot Center.
