Women’s Basketball’s Taylor Named 1st Team All-Region
March 19, 2009
STERLING, Va. – Junior Becky Taylor of The University of Texas at Tyler women’s basketball team was named to the D3Hoops.com All-South Region first team on Wednesday.
Taylor is coming off one of the most prolific seasons for a UT Tyler player in school history. The Bullard-native led the Patriots with 17.5 points and 13.3 rebounds per game on the year.
The three-year letter winner’s list of accomplishments for the 2008-2009 season include recording 23 double-doubles in 26 games, breaking the school’s single-game rebound record on two separate occasions and breaking the American Southwest Conference single-season rebound record. Taylor’s 23 double-doubles ties her for third place on the NCAA Division III single-season double-double list.
Taylor finished the season third in the ASC in scoring and second in rebounding. Additionally, she finished third amongst all Division III players in rebounding, 11th in field goal percentage and 61st in points per game.
This is not the first post-season honor for Taylor, as she has already been named to the All-ASC team, All-ASC East first team and earned Academic All-ASC honors.
Taylor was one of six players to be named to a total of three All-South Region teams from the ASC. Joining Taylor on the first team from the ASC was sophomore Lindsey Newcombe of Hardin-Simmons. Sophomore Tilisha Givens of Louisiana College earned second team honors, while senior Kassandra Bills of Concordia (Tex.), junior Hope Hohertz of Howard Payne and sophomore Landie Thompson of Mary Hardin-Baylor were all named to the third team.
Taylor, along with all other first team All-Region selections, is now eligible to receive All-America honors from the website. The 2009 D3Hoops.com All-American teams will be announced during the site’s broadcast of the Division III Men’s and Women’s Basketball National Championship games on Saturday.
