Women’s Basketball Posts Big Numbers in Win at TLU
November 29, 2008

SEGUIN, Texas – Junior Becky Taylor (Bullard, Texas) and sophomore Melissa Thomas (Austin, Texas) of The University of Texas at Tyler Women’s basketball team found their way into the Patriot record books during Saturday’s 82-64 win at Texas Lutheran.

Taylor pulled down 17 rebounds in the game to set a new UT Tyler single-game mark for rebounds, while Thomas scored 31 points to become just the fifth Patriot in program history to score 30 points in a game.

The Patriots trailed for the first five minutes of the match-up and traded the lead back and forth with the Bulldogs until midway through the first half. With 11:20 left to play in the stanza, Thomas nailed a jumper to give the Patriots a lead which they never lost.

Taylor also scored 17 points for her fourth double-double of the season, while Thomas came close to her own double-double with eight rebounds.

Senior Marzetta Shepard (Atlanta, Texas) turned in another well-rounded performance recording 15 points, eight steals, seven rebounds and six assists.

Freshman Jennifer Munoz (San Antonio, Texas) led the Bulldogs with 14 points, while sophomore Courtney Haskell (San Antonio, Texas) added 11.

The contest was the American Southwest Conference opener for both teams. The win moves the Patriots to 3-1 on the year, while Texas Lutheran falls to 0-2.

UT Tyler will now travel to Kerrville on Monday where they will meet Schreiner at 5:30 p.m.
