SHREVEPORT, La., – Sophomore Lauren Thomas led The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team in shots and scored its lone goal in the Patriots’ 1-0 season opening victory over Oklahoma Christian.

Thomas’ goal was set up by a cross from senior Jessica Pierce that caught the OCU goalkeeper moving in the wrong direction. More>>>

Women's Soccer's Buchanan Receives ASC Honor; Patriots Picked No. 2

RICHARDSON, Texas -- Senior defender Kelly Buchanan (Houston, Texas) was named American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday by a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

2008 UT Tyler Women’s Soccer Preview

In 2007, The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team came within one game of winning the American Southwest Conference championship and advancing to their first-ever NCAA tournament. All of this was accomplished in the Patriots’ first year of post-season eligibility and with a team comprised mainly of freshmen and sophomores.

Not only was last year’s squad composed of mostly underclassmen, due to UT Tyler spending four years as provisional member of the NCAA, no members of the 2007 team had any post-season experience. More>>>

This summer, three members of The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team are spending their break playing in the Women’s Premier Soccer League. Sophomore Ashley Crawford (Colleyville, Texas) and freshman Emily Bechdol (Cedar Hill, Texas) are playing for Vitesse Dallas, while their UT Tyler teammate, sophomore Kasey Kemp (Colleyville, Texas), is playing for Fort Worth FC.

Fourteen All-ASC Soccer Spots Go to Patriots
November 8, 2007

The UT Tyler men’s and women’s soccer teams have placed a total of 14 players on the All-American Southwest Conference squads to cap off historic seasons, it was announced this week.

Seven players from the ASC runner-up women’s soccer team were named to the All-ASC women’s team, including three first-team selections in Jorden Reed, Amanda Thomas and Kelly Buchanan. The Patriots advanced to the championship game of the ASC tournament in their first year eligible, falling to Hardin-Simmons, 2-0.

Reed, a senior forward, scored a team-leading seven goals on the season. To that she added four assists to top the team in total points with 18. She led all Patriots with 39 shots taken during the season. More>>>

Women's Soccer to Play for ASC Title
November 3, 2007

ABILENE - Brenda Salinas scored in the 44th minute and the UT Tyler Patriots outlasted UT Dallas to advance to the championship game of the American Southwest Conference women's soccer tournament at the Hardin-Simmons Soccer Complex.

UT Tyler took the 1-0 just before halftime when Salinas found the back of the net on an assist by Taylor Estes. The goal was Salinas' first of the year.

The Patriots finished the game with 11 total shots and limited UTD, the tournaments' second seeded team, to seven. Lauren Daily led all Patriots with four shots. More>>>

Women's Soccer Moves to Semifinals with 4-0 Victory
November 2, 2007

ABILENE - The UT Tyler women’s soccer team scored a convincing, 4-0 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor to advance to the semifinal round of the American Southwest Conference soccer tournament.

Friday’s win means UT Tyler will face UT Dallas at 2 p.m. Saturday in Abilene. The Patriots are the No. 3 seed while UT Dallas holds the No. 2 seed.

Women’s Soccer Ready for First ASC Appearance
October 30, 2007

The University of Texas at Tyler’s women’s soccer team will play in its first-ever American Southwest Conference championship tournament this weekend in Abilene.

The tournament, hosted by Hardin-Simmons, begins at 11 a.m. Friday with No. 4 Mississippi College taking on No. 5 Texas Lutheran. Hardin-Simmons, ranked sixth nationally, is favored to repeat as ASC champions as they enter the tournament on a 98-game ASC win streak.

“We are very excited to be eligible for the playoffs and we have been working for this since I first arrived in Tyler,” said UT Tyler head coach Stefani Webb. “The University has done a tremendous job of providing our student-athletes with such an unbelievable opportunity and we are excited to be able to represent UT Tyler in the postseason." Women's Soccer Wins Finale, 4-0
October 27, 2007

The UT Tyler women’s soccer team will go into the American Southwest Conference tournament as the No. 3 seed after beating Concordia, 4-0, in Saturday’s regular season finale in Austin.

The Patriots are set to face sixth seed Mary Hardin-Baylor Friday at 2 p.m. in Abilene.

Overall, the UT Tyler defense prevented Concordia from taking a single shot while the Patriots’ offense fired off 28 attempts. More>>>

ABILENE - The UT Tyler women’s soccer team went 1-1 during its weekend trip to Abilene, downing McMurry before falling to the American Southwest Conference’s lone undefeated team, Hardin-Simmons.

The Patriots (4-3-2, 3-1-2 ASC) will play at home this week, hosting Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday and Howard Payne on Saturday.

It took an extra 13 minutes, but the UT Tyler women's soccer team earned their second American Southwest Conference victory in as many games, winning a 2-1 overtime thriller over Mississippi College at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex Saturday.
