November 3, 2007

ABILENE - Brenda Salinas scored in the 44th minute and the UT Tyler Patriots outlasted UT Dallas to advance to the championship game of the American Southwest Conference women's soccer tournament at the Hardin-Simmons Soccer Complex.

UT Tyler took the 1-0 just before halftime when Salinas found the back of the net on an assist by Taylor Estes. The goal was Salinas' first of the year.

The Patriots finished the game with 11 total shots and limited UTD, the tournaments' second seeded team, to seven. Lauren Daily led all Patriots with four shots.

UT Tyler goalkeeper Sam Fraser made four saves to prevent UTD from scoring and the Patriot defense limited the Comets to just three second-half shots.

The Patriots will face tournament host and nationally-ranked Hardin-Simmons at 1 p.m. Sunday for the ASC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.

UT Tyler brings a 13-3-3 season record into the finals but faces a top-seeded Hardin-Simmons (18-1) that has won four straight ASC tournament championships. The Cowgirls have won 16 straight games and are ranked 13th in the nation.

UT Dallas ends it season with a 12-5-3 record.
