Women’s Soccer Splits Weekend Matches

The UT Tyler women’s soccer team went 1-1 during its weekend trip to Abilene, downing McMurry before falling to the American Southwest Conference’s lone undefeated team, Hardin-Simmons.
The Patriots (4-3-2, 3-1-2 ASC) will play at home this week, hosting Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday and Howard Payne on Saturday.
Two first-half goals led UT Tyler by McMurry on Thursday, in route to the 3-0 win for the Patriots. Amanda Thomas scored first for UT Tyler, hitting the back of the net in the seventh minute for the Patriots on a set up from Lauren Dailey.
Sonya Gomez scored less than 10 minutes later with an assist from Leah Solomon. Then in the second half Lauren Thomas scored on a penalty kick after a hand ball was called on McMurry inside the box.
The UT Tyler defense held McMurry to just four total shots while the Patriots had 38.
On Saturday, Hardin-Simmons pushed its ASC unbeaten streak to 88 straight games with a 2-1 win over the Patriots.
Hardin-Simmons out-shot the Patriots 8-1 in the first half. In the second half, UT Tyler took the advantage on shots 5-3. The Patriots scored at the 83:15 mark on a penalty kick by Jorden Reed.
Morgan Loyd notched both goals for Hardin-Simmons, the first at 8:30 and the second at 18:55. The UT Tyler defense held Hardin-Simmons scoreless the remainder of the contest.
