October 9, 2008
The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team scored a 2-1 victory over Texas Lutheran Thursday evening in American Southwest Conference action at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
TLU (5-6, 3-3 ASC) scored first on a penalty kick by Kelli Layden at 10:36 and held the 1-0 lead through the rest of the first half.
The Patriots (8-2-1, 5-2 ASC) finally got on the board in the 63rd minute on an unassisted goal from Jessica Pierce.
Lauren Thomas scored the game-winning goal for UT Tyler in the 73rd minute; the unassisted score was Thomas’ seventh of the season. She leads all Patriots in goals scored on the year.
Overall, Texas Lutheran took 10 shots to UT Tyler’s nine.
The difference may have been the five key saves by Patriots’ keeper Sam Fraser, who handled all 90-minutes of goal keeping duty for UT Tyler. Four of Fraser’s saves came in the second half.
UT Tyler’s home stand continues Saturday, hosting Schreiner at 1 p.m.
