Women’s Soccer Completes Sweep in Shreveport
September 2, 2007

SHREVEPORT, La., - The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team picked up a hard-fought 2-0 victory against Oklahoma City on Monday afternoon in Shreveport. The Patriots won both matches in the 2008 LSU-Shreveport Invitational.

The game was a tightly-contested, physical battle. Despite the Stars outshooting the Patriots 14-10, at the end of 90 minutes the shots on goal column was even at five a piece.

The Patriots’ struck first offensively off a corner kick by Kelly Buchanan. The ball sailed over the box where Amanda Thomas was waiting to kick it by the Oklahoma City keeper, putting UT Tyler up 1-0.

Less than three minutes later, Kendall Kramer passed the ball to Sonya Gomez for her first goal of the season and extended the Patriots lead to 2-0.

The win did not come easy for the Patriots, as OCU put pressure on the Patriots’ goal and forced goalkeeper Sam Fraser to make five saves, while earning her second shutout in as many games.

Thomas led the team with three shots, while Kramer and Gomez each had two. Lauren Thomas, Jessica Pierce and Shelby Rozell had one shot on the afternoon.

The Patriots will return home next weekend for their home opener on Friday against No. 21 Trinity (Tex.) at 7 p.m.
