UTD Advances Past Women’s Soccer With Shootout Win
November 7, 2009

ABILENE, Texas – A full 110 minutes and five penalty kicks were not enough to determine a winner in Saturday’s American Southwest Conference women’s soccer semi-final match between The University of Texas at Tyler and The University of Texas at Dallas at the Hardin-Simmons Soccer Complex in Abilene.

After nine extra penalty kicks, however, the Comets ended UT Tyler’s season and advanced to the ASC Championship game with an 11-10 shootout victory.

Although the game went a full 110 minutes without a score, the Patriots were not without opportunities in the match.  UT Tyler outshot UT Dallas, 19-8, in the contest and placed seven shots on goal. compared to just one by the Comets (7-7-6).  The Patriots also enjoyed an 8-2 advantage over UT Dallas in corner kicks.

Junior Analiz Medina (Tyler, Texas) led the Patriots with six shots on the day, while junior Lauren Thomas (College Station, Texas), followed the five.

Senior goalkeeper Sam Fraser (Lindale, Texas) ended her career at UT Tyler by making one save to earn the 15th solo shutout of her career.

UT Tyler ends its 2009 campaign with an overall record of 12-4-1 and a record of 10-2 in the ASC.  The Patriots’ second place regular season-finish is the best in program history.
