Women’s Soccer Rolls Past Howard Payne
October 1, 2009

The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team poured on the offense on Thursday night at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex by blowing past Howard Payne, 7-1, in American Southwest Conference action.

Senior Summer Werner (Allen, Texas) scored UT Tyler’s (6-3, 4-1) first goal of the night in the 6th minute when the Howard Payne goalkeeper fell at the top of box and Werner was able send the ball into the empty net.

Junior Leah Solomon (Schertz, Texas) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 19th minute after she rebounded her own shot. Solomon also played a key role in two other Patriot goals and was credited with an assist for each one.

The Yellow Jackets’ Susanna Chavarria scored her team’s lone goal of the game in the 38th minute off of a free kick that clipped the fingers of UT Tyler goalkeeper Sam Fraser (Lindale, Texas). Fraser ended the game with two saves.

Despite Chavarria’s goal, Howard Payne (3-5-1, 2-2-1) was unable to add any other goals to its score and fell by a six goal deficit.

Senior Alina Kilkenny-DeAvila (Tyler, Texas) was the only Patriot to record two goals on the night, scoring in the 28th and 74th minutes.

Freshman Lindsey Edwards (Katy, Texas) and juniors Leah Malone (Lewisville, Texas) and Kendall Kramer (Houston, Texas) all added to the Patriots’ tally on the night by scoring one goal each.

The Patriots will resume ASC action on Saturday by hosting Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex at 1 p.m.
