Golden Goal Lifts Women’s Soccer by LeTourneau
October 17, 2009
Junior Chelsea Fiscus (Keller, Texas) of The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team scored just 57 seconds into the first overtime period to give her team a 1-0 American Southwest Conference victory over LeTourneau on Saturday at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
Despite outshooting the YellowJackets, 22-1, in the match, the Patriots went 90 minutes without finding the back of the net.
Finally, just under a minute into the extra period, Fiscus scored the unassisted goal to extend UT Tyler’s win streak to five.
Senior goalkeeper Sam Fraser (Lindale, Texas) earned a clean sheet in the match by turning away one shot. Fraser now has two solo shutouts this season and 12 for her career.
With the win UT Tyler’s record improves to 9-3 overall and 7-1 in the ASC, while LeTourneau falls to 4-9-1 on the year and 2-6-1 in league play.
The Patriots will resume ASC action on Monday when they host East Texas Baptist at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex at 6 p.m.
