Women’s Soccer Rolls by Concordia for 7th Straight Win
October 24, 2009
AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team picked up its seventh consecutive victory and fifth straight shutout on Saturday by beating Concordia (Tex.), 5-0, in an American Southwest Conference match-up at the Town & Country Field in Austin.
The Patriots spent the first thirty minutes of the match trying to get a hold on the Concordia defense, but once the offense got started there was no stopping it.
The eventual game-winning goal came in the 34th minute when junior Analiz Medina (Tyler, Texas) finished a play that was set up by senior Amanda Thomas (Grapevine, Texas) and junior Kendall Kramer (Houston, Texas) to give UT Tyler the 1-0 lead.
Less than three minutes later the Patriots found the back of the net again, this time off of a goal kick from senior Sam Fraser (Lindale, Texas) that was knocked in by Kramer to put UT Tyler up by two.
In the second half, junior Ashley Crawford (Grand Prairie, Texas), sophomore Emily Bechdol (Cedar Hill, Texas) and freshman Lindsey Edwards (Katy, Texas) each helped increase the Patriots’ lead by an adding one unassisted goal each.
Senior goalkeeper Lauren Hufham (Arlington, Texas) came into the game in relief of Fraser midway through the second half and made one save, while Fraser ended the afternoon with two.
With the win, UT Tyler improves to 11-3 on the year and 9-1 in the ASC, while the Tornados fall to 5-7-1 overall and 3-7-1 in league play.
On Thursday, the Patriots will play the first of their final two games of the regular season when they travel to Richardson to take on Texas-Dallas at 5 p.m.
