Women’s Soccer Ends Win Streak With OT Loss at Texas-Dallas
October 29, 2009

RICHARDSON, Texas - The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team’s seven game win-streak came to an end on Thursday night with a 2-1 overtime loss to Texas-Dallas in an American Southwest Conference match-up in Richardson.

The Patriots (11-4, 9-2) were first on the board in the contest thanks to a goal from junior Lauren Thomas (College Station, Texas) off of a pass from junior Analiz Medina (Tyler, Texas) just over five minutes into the game.

However, less than three minutes later UT Dallas (6-7-4, 6-4-2) evened the score at one when Cassie Lydick headed the ball past UT Tyler goalkeeper Sam Fraser (Lindale, Texas) for the goal.

After combining for two goals in the first ten minutes, the two offenses leveled off and allowed their respective defenses to guide them to overtime.

In the first overtime, it was more of the same as neither team was able to find the back of the net. But just 25 seconds into the second overtime, the Comets’ Emily George fired a shot from 30 yards out past Fraser to give her team the 2-1 victory.

The loss to the Comets means the Patriots must win their regular season finale to clinch second place in the ASC outright and claim one of two first-round byes in next weekend’s conference tournament. The Patriots will attempt to do just that on Saturday when they travel to Clarksville, Ark., to take on Ozarks in their final regular season game of the year. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
