Women’s Soccer Earns Second Place With Win at Ozarks
October 31, 2009
CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team earned a second place regular-season finish in the American Southwest Conference by beating Ozarks, 3-0, on Saturday in Clarksville in its final game of the 2009 regular season.
In the first half, the Patriots (12-4, 10-2) created plenty of opportunities but could not find an answer for the Ozarks (4-14, 3-9) defense or their goalkeeper Lori Langman and took a 0-0 tie into the halftime break.
However just six minutes in the second half, junior Leah Solomon (Schertz, Texas) found an open Lauren Thomas (College Station, Texas) who fired the ball past Langman for the eventual game-winning goal.
In the 76th minute, junior Kendall Kramer (Houston, Texas) and Solomon set a new ASC record for fastest two consecutive goals by the same team when the duo scored just 13 seconds apart. Sophomore Emily Bechdol (Cedar Hill, Texas) also played a role in setting the new record, as she assisted both goals.
Senior goalkeeper Sam Fraser earned her fourth solo shutout of the season in the match by making one save.
By finishing in second place, the Patriots have earned a first-round bye in next weekend’s ASC Tournament at Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas. UT Tyler’s first game in the tournament will be on Saturday against the winner of the match between Mississippi College and Texas-Dallas at 2 p.m.
