September 11, 2009
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team was shutout, 4-0, by 13th-ranked Trinity (Tex.) on Friday night at the Jesse H. Jones Soccer Field in San Antonio, Texas.
The game started off as a defensive battle in which neither team scored until very late in the first half. In the 42nd minute, Trinity’s Brianna Young broke the tie with an unassisted goal to give her team a 1-0 lead that they carried into halftime.
The first thirty minutes of the second half went much like the first half, with both teams creating opportunities but neither team finding the back of the net.
However, in the 77th minute, Trinity’s Kelly Wright gave her team a two goal cushion by scoring off of a pass from Jordan Azar.
After Wright’s goal, the Tigers went on to add two additional goals in less than four minutes, giving them the decisive 4-0 victory.
Despite being outshot by Trinity 21-9, the Patriots put seven of their nine shots on goal compared to just eight of 21 by the Tigers.
With the loss the Patriots fall to 1-2 on the season, while Trinity improves to 3-0.
UT Tyler will return to action on the road on Sunday when they take on Southwestern (Tex.) at 1 p.m., in Georgetown.
