Women’s Soccer Rolls Past Mississippi College
September 17, 2009
BULLARD, Texas - The University of Texas at Tyler women’s soccer team began its 2009 American Southwest Conference campaign with a 4-1 win over Mississippi College on Thursday evening at The Brook Hill School’s Herrington Stadium in Bullard.
The Patriots (3-2, 1-0) were first on the board in the contest when junior Lauren Thomas (College Station, Texas) scored her third goal of the season on a breakaway in the 10th minute, giving her team the early advantage.
UT Tyler added to its lead in the 38th minute when senior Amanda Thomas (Grapevine, Texas) received the ball off of a corner kick and passed it to senior Summer Werner (Allen, Texas) for the Patriots’ second goal of the game.
The Choctaws (2-3, 0-1) pulled within one early in the second half on a shot from Reagan Eastwood that bounced down off the crossbar and into the goal for her team’s first goal of the game.
However, it was too little too late for the Choctaws as UT Tyler played stifling defense for the rest of the half and limited the visitors to just two shots on goal for the remainder of the period.
Juniors Kendall Kramer (Houston, Texas) and Analiz Medina (Tyler, Texas) added to the Patriots’ tally in the 72nd and 77th minutes, respectively, helping UT Tyler cruise to a 4-1 victory.
The Patriots will continue ASC play at home on Saturday when they host Louisiana College at 2 p.m.
