



Potential Sources of Research Funding for Students
- National Science Foundation: REU-Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program. This program awards stipends for student research projects during the summer at different university locations. Go to (http://www.nsf.gov/home/crssprgm/reu/start.htm) for more information and deadlines.
- Council for Undergraduate Research (CUR): Summer Science Fellowships. Apply with a faculty member. (http://cur.org/fellowhisps.html) Deadline is in November
- Sigma Xi Research Grants: Awarded for special equipment and travel to research sites. Grants range from $100 to $1000. Go to (http://www.sigmaxi.org/programs/giar/index.shtml). Requires an advisor and one other letter of support. Deadline is October 15 and March 15.
- American Museum of Natural History-Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Fund. This is for research on North American fauna in wildlife conservation or natural history. Go to (http://research.amnh.org/grants/grantsprog.html). Deadline is in Mid February.
- Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles: Grants-in-Herpetology. Awards of $500 given in conservation, field research, laboratory research, travel, education, international and bibliographic research. Go to (http://www.ssarherps.org/pages/GIH.php). Apply late December for the next year and be a member of SSAR.
- Chicago Herpetological Society Grants. Awards up to $500 in the following categories: 1. Illinois Herpetology 2. Undergraduate Research in Herpetology 3. Graduate student Research in Herpetology 4. - The Linnaeus Fund: Annual Turtle Research Awards. Priority given to freshwater turtle projects in taxonomy and systematic relationships, conservation, distribution and zoogeography, ecology, natural history, and morphology. - Gaige Fund Award (ASIH). Awards range from $400-$1,000. Go to (http://www.asih.org/awards/gaige2.html) Deadline March 1st.
- William C Churchill Fund/Karl T. Frederick Memorial Fund: Supports research that contributes to restoration, protection and conservation of natural resources including wildlife. - Science to Achieve Results (EPA STAR Grants): reviewed with GRO grants, support for a maximum of two years, up to $37,000 per of support.
