General Compliance Training
Thank you to all employees for completing their general compliance training for FY 04-05. For those that completed the training this year, you will get to skip next year and take the training again in FY 06-07.
Enterprise Risk Management
This is the year that the University will be undergoing a universal risk assessment with all areas participating. Kathy Kapka from Audit Services will be initiating this process in March. More information on this will be coming soon.
For more compliance information please visit the Compliance website at: http://www.uttyler.edu/compliance/

Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S)
Why are people walking around looking at my extension cords and closing classroom and office doors?
February 22nd – February 25th, the State Fire Marshall’s office will be on the main campus. Among the most common violations found on college campuses are extension cords being used instead of wall plugs (extension cords are for temporary use only), surge protectors plugged into other surge protectors, propping open classroom and laboratory doors. EH&S and Physical Plant are currently surveying buildings to make sure easily fixed items are taken care of before the inspection.
Space Heaters
Is it OK to have a space heater in your office?
Yes, if the heater is an approved space heater per the UT Tyler policy on heaters – to find out which heaters are approved, go to: http://www.uttyler.edu/safety/heater.html

Coming Soon: Employee Photographs in the Online Faculty/Staff Directory
The Office of Human Resources (HR), in cooperation with the Office of Student Business Services, will be using the Patriot Power ID card photographs in the faculty/staff online directory. If you do not want your photograph included in the directory, you can send an email to Judy Parker in HR. We think everyone will appreciate this new enhancement. If you have not had your new Patriot Power ID card made, please drop by the cashier’s office in ADM 125 and get your new P2 card.
Title IX Training
Howard Patterson, Dean of Student Affairs, and Joe Vorsas, Director of Human Resources, conducted non-discrimination training on December 6 & 7 for staff in the Athletics department, Student Affairs, Patriot Center, and Enrollment Management Division. The training was conducted to highlight the new UT Tyler nondiscrimination policy and complaint procedure for staff in key areas of the University. The new policy can be found in the Human Resources section (section 4.19) of the Handbook of Operating Procedures. http://www.uttyler.edu/ohr/hop/
Performance Evaluations
Performance evaluations for administrative and classified employees should be completed by February 28, 2005 for the period of January 1, 2004 – December 31, 2004. This is an important event where we find out how we are doing and receive constructive comments on how we can improve our job performance. The classified evaluations will include a new rating system that will be identical to the rating system used for administrative employees. This provides a uniform rating system for both groups and will be used to help determine merit increases during those times when merit money is available.
