DEFINE User Group Meeting
We’ve received some requests to start up the DEFINE User Group meetings again. This was formerly a quarterly meeting where different DEFINE topics were discussed and DEFINE users shared tips and best practices. Call Carrie Clayton at ext 7184 or email at cclayton@uttyler.edu by September 30, 2005 if you are interested in attending these meetings and please include topics you would like to discuss.
January 2005 Post Payment Audit Results
We received the Audit Report from the Comptroller’s Post Payment Audit performed in January 2005. The audit included a sample of payroll, purchase, payment card, and travel transactions. A few payment and documentation errors were detected within the purchase and travel samples, but these errors were not projected because of the relatively low dollar amount. The Comptroller reported that, while the types of errors detected were also identified in a previous audit (FY 2001), the number of errors was significantly reduced in the current audit. Overall, a very good report! A summary of the audit findings, along with applicable UT Tyler procedures, can be found by following this link.

Human Resources
Click. Plan. Save. Retire.
A state-of-the-art retirement plan administration system called UTRetirement Manager will be introduced to UT Tyler employees during the month of September. It is a secure way to manage your UT retirement accounts (Optional Retirement, Tax Sheltered Annuities, and Deferred Compensation), a tool to determine if your financial plan is on track, and is a comprehensive source for financial planning. UT Retirement Manager is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Participants will be able to view a summary of their retirement plan balances, enroll in and make changes to retirement plans, and will be able to split contributions between multiple vendors.
All employees are eligible to participate in the UT Saver Tax-Sheltered Annuity Program at the present time and will be able to participate in the UT Saver Deferred Compensation Plan November 1, 2005. Both of these programs are a voluntary, supplemental retirement savings plans that enable you to contribute to your retirement on a tax-deferred basis. Participation may significantly reduce your current taxes and help you save additional dollars for retirement. You can contribute as little as $20 per month or up to the maximum IRS limit. The regular contribution limit for both plans for 2005 is $14,000 for each. This means you could tax defer up to $28,000 or even more if you qualify for the special catch-up provisions. Information and forms to enroll are available on the UT Retirement website.
Training times on UTRetirement Manager will be announced during the month of September. Log on to https://www.vrsco.com/retireman/ to build for your future and to realize your dreams! Contact Lynne Bandy in the Office of Human Resources, Ext. 7358, for additional information.
