Career Assessment
Undecided Major?
Am I on the right career path?
What is my work personality and work environment?
What can I do with my major?
What are my strengths?
Career Services offers three online career related assessments. Students should meet with a career counselor to discuss which career assessment is best suited for their current needs.
For students to truly benefit from the type of information a career assessment can offer and relate their specific experiences to the assessment, all career assessment results must be reviewed with someone from Career Services.
To take an online career assessment following these procedure:
- Meet with a career counselor to determine which career assessment if right for you at this phase of your life.
- Get the login information from your career counselor. Login information will not be given over the phone. Email requests for the TypeFocus and Strength Quest can be made using your UT Tyler email. To take the Strong Interest Inventory you must meet with a career counselor.
- Take the online career assessment
- Schedule an "interpretation" session with your career counselor
The following career assessments focus on a variety of different areas of self discovery, such as personality, skills, interests, values and strengths to identify occupational options and career paths.
The Strong Interest Inventory
Used by more than 70 percent of U.S. colleges and universities, the Strong Interest Inventory® assessment is one of the world's most widely respected and frequently used career planning tools. It helps high school and college students—as well as people in transition—make fulfilling career choices.
Helping Students Succeed
But before students can select a career, they first need to find the path that's right for them. The Strong assessment can help. By giving students insight into their interests, preferences, and personal styles, the Strong enables them to identify specific courses, jobs, internships, and activities they're likely to enjoy. And that can greatly increase the likelihood that they'll stay in school and ultimately graduate.
