Tuition & Fee Refund Schedule

If a student formally drops one or more courses through the Office of the Registrar, the university will refund applicable tuition and fees collected for courses from which a student drops within the first 12 days of a fall, spring or summer session of 10 weeks or longer and within the first four days of a summer term, provided the student remains enrolled at the institution for that semester or term. Refunds for courses dropped by a student who later in the semester or term withdraws from the institution will be calculated according to the following schedule:

Summer 2014

Summer Long

Partial Withdrawals

  • From registration through June 2, 2014 (census Date): 100%
  • After June 2, 2014 (census Date):  No refund

Complete Withdrawals

  • Prior to May 19, 2014: 100%
  • From May 19 through May 23, 2014: 80%
  • From May 24 through May 30, 2014: 70%
  • From May 31 through June 5, 2014: 50%
  • From June 6 through June 11, 2014: 25% 
  • After June 11, 2014: No refund

Summer Short

Partial Withdrawals

  • From registration through May 20, 2014 (census date): 100%
  • After May 20, 2014:  No refund

Complete Withdrawals

  • Prior to May 19, 2014: 100%
  • May 19, 2014: 80%
  • May 20, 2014: 50%
  • After May 20, 2014: No refund

Summer I

Partial Withdrawals

  • From registration through June 12, 2014 (census date):  100%
  • After June 12, 2014:  No refund

Complete Withdrawals

  • From registration to June 9, 2014:  100%
  • From June 9, 2014 through June 11, 2014:  80%
  • From June 12, 2014 through June 13, 2014:  50%
  • After June 13, 2014:  No refund

Summer II

Partial Withdrawals

  • From registration through July 17, 2014 (census date):  100%
  • After July 17, 2014:  No refund

Complete Withdrawals

  • From registration to July 14, 2014:  100%
  • July 14, 2014:  80%
  • July 15, 2014:  50%
  • After July 15, 2014:  No refund

For refunds, the effective date of withdrawal will be the date when the withdrawal is officially completed and recorded by the registrar's Office. If the university cancels a scheduled course of instruction, all fees will be refunded. No refunds will be made unless applied for in the same school year as withdrawal. Immediate refund will not be made to students who withdraw during the refund period. Normally, a refund will be made within 30 days from the last day of scheduled refunds to the student's chosen refund preference (check or P2 card).

All policies regarding the payment or refunding of tuition, fees, and charges comply with applicable statutes and are approved by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System. If a person desires clarification of any matter relating to payment or refund of such charges, or believes special circumstances warrant exceptions to the published policy, the Office of Business Affairs at UT Tyler should be contacted.

Examples of Refunds (Based on the Summer 2014 Refund Schedule)

Partial Withdraw From the University

An undergraduate student is enrolled in 6 hours for Summer I and is charged $1558 in tuition and fees calculated as follows:

Resident Tuition $300
Designated Tuition $774
Student Service Fee $66
Mandatory Fee $328
Instructional Support Fee $90

Total of Tuition and Fees $1558

The student drops 3 hours on June 11, 2014. The student's refund is calculated as follows:

Resident Tuition $150 3 hrs x $50 per SCH
Designated Tuition $387 3 hrs x $129 per SCH
Student Service Fee $33 3 hrs x $11 per SCH
Mandatory Fee $0
Total Tuition and Fees Refundable $570*
Refund percentage x 100% 100% through June 12, 2014
Total Refund $570

The same student above enrolled in 6 hours drops the 3 hours on June 14, 2014 instead of the date in the example above. The student's refund is calculated as follows:

Designated Tuition $387 3 hrs x $129 per SCH
Student Service Fee $33 3 hrs x $11 per SCH

Complete Withdraw From the University

An undergraduate student is enrolled in 6 hours for Summer I and is charged $1,558 in tuition and fees. The student completely withdraws from the university on June 7, 2014. The student's refund is calculated as follows:

An undergraduate student is enrolled in 6 hours and is charged $1,558 in tuition and fees. The student completely withdraws from the university on June 13, 2014. The student's refund is calculated as follows:

An undergraduate student is enrolled in 3 hours for Summer II and is charged $943 in tuition and fees. The student completely withdraws from the university on July 16, 2014. The student's refund is calculated as follows:

*Your tuition and fee amount that is refundable may include fees that were assessed based on the courses that are being dropped.

**Your tuition and fee balance may include a parking permit, add fee, late fee, installment fee or emergency loan fee. These fees are not included in the refund calculation.
