COLLEGE
OF ARTS AND SCIENCES ART
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES The prospective art major should be aware of marked differences in degree programs. Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree programs emphasize the creative disciplines of studio art and art education for the professional development of individual creative talent. The B.F.A. degree is the preferred preparatory degree for students wanting to pursue studio art, art education and the Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) graduate degree. The Bachelor of Arts in Art (B.A.) degree program emphasizes a broad liberal arts education with art specialization in the supportive role. Students wanting to pursue graduate studies in art history often select the B.A. degree with its 12-hour foreign language requirement, which is not required for the B.F.A. degree. Students
should consult an art advisor in their first semester at UT Tyler to plan
a course of study in art. A degree plan must be complete in consultation
with an art advisor during the students first semester at UT Tyler. The
Art Program secretary should be consulted to find out which advisor has
been assigned to the student.
Students interested in graduate studies in art should see the graduate section of the catalog and contact a graduate art advisor. BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS IN ART (B.F.A.) Admission
